Mission Statement
Pediatric Physician Alliance of Central Texas is a civic and professional organization of pediatricians and
pediatric sub-specialists who have joined together in pursuit of optimal care for the children of Central
Texas. Founded in February 1995 by a group of pediatric physicians interested in providing an effective
and proactive impact on issues of common interest, the group now includes over 180 physician members.
Membership includes the large majority of pediatric physicians and pediatric medical and surgical
sub-specialists (including hospital-based specialists such as anesthesiologists and radiologists) in Austin
and its surrounding counties.

ENHANCING THE DELIVERY AND QUALITY OF HEALTHCARE FOR OUR CHILDREN
By forming an alliance, area pediatricians are prepared to build consensus on issues relating to medical
practice, standards of care, minimizing barriers to access of children's health care, managed care, and the
Children's Hospital of Austin. By facilitating the collegial association of pediatric physicians, the Pediatric
Physician Alliance is well positioned to develop and achieve effective recommendations for change.
STRENGTHENING CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF AUSTIN
Our major purpose is to develop and strengthen the capability of the Children's Hospital to provide
comprehensive, cost-effective and quality medical and surgical services to the children of Central Texas.
A prime example of the Pediatric Physician Alliance's contribution is the crafting of a consensus statement
defining the collaborative relationship of Austin's separate health care systems in the utilization and support
of the Children's Hospital. Our Alliance also effectively encourages physician participation in Children's
Hospital medical staff activities, in support of the operation of the pediatric residency program, and in
assuring access to healthcare for the children the of Central Texas area.
SUPPORTING THE PRACTICE OF PEDIATRIC MEDICINE AND SURGERY
With the rapidly changing managed care environment, pediatric physicians are concerned with the
preservation of high standards in their delivery of care while adjusting to the changing business climate.
The Pediatric Physician Alliance serves as a resource for information on local insurance matters, practice
management, and coding and claims submission. As an advocate for a highly trained pediatric physician
community, our Alliance promotes and supports participation in local, regional, national and self-study
CME opportunities.
HELPING PROVIDE ACCESS TO COMPREHENSIVE HEALTHCARE FOR THE
CHILDREN OF OUR AREA
By developing liaison with other professional groups and organizations concerned with the health care of
children, and by building community awareness of issues related to children's health, the Pediatric
Physician Alliance assists in removing barriers to care for Central Texas children. Our participation,
sponsorship and leadership in the fund-raising activities of the Children's Hospital Foundation is one
example of the positive impact Alliance members have on the provision of pediatric care in the community.
